The Blackfriars Teaching School Alliance was formed in 2013 as part of the third wave of National Teaching Schools. Led by Blackfriars School in Newcastle Under Lyme, the Alliance provides high quality staff development and school to school support across all phases from support staff, ITT and through to Senior Leadership level. All our partners, schools and HEI’s, share the common goal of continuous school improvement through collaboration.
As a Teaching School Alliance we share responsibilities to develop capacity and we structure our offer around the National College’s ‘Big Six’:
- Initial Teacher Training
- Continuing Professional Development and Leadership Development
- School Support
- Specialist Leaders in Education (SLE’s)
- Succession Planning and Talent Management
- Research and Development
These six themes provide a framework within which our school support can be offered.
The Alliance provides nationally accredited and bespoke leadership, training, support, research and development opportunities to school staff across the region. Including:
- OTAP (Outstanding Teaching Assistant Programme) from Autumn 2014
The Alliance is currently working on several Research and Development strands funded by the NCTL:
